The Portland Spy Ring saw the Russian KGB seeking to steal the secrets of the Admiralty Underwater Research Establishment based on the Island. The operation went on for 5 years with ample opportunity to expose the culprits missed. Only when a triple agent codenamed Sniper blew their cover did an international task group swing into action to capture the members. This talk will look at intelligence gathering by deep-cover illegal agents linked to those who also stole the secrets of the atomic bomb at the end of World War II.
About Brigadier (Retired) J J Little OBE MBA FRSA:
Jeff joined the army in 1974 and, after Sandhurst, served in Germany and Gibraltar before joining the Gurkha Brigade in Hong Kong. He has seen operational service in Ulster, Kuwait, Turkey, Iraq, Bosnia and Kosovo. After passing the Army Staff College, he specialised in logistic support and equipment procurement. He studied emergency planning at Coventry University before being appointed Chief Executive of the National Security Inspectorate. Little’s hobbies include history, reading, writing and teaching Mah Jong.
