Volunteering

No volunteering vacancies at present. Please check back next month for new opportunities.

Weymouth Museum is now entering a new and exciting phase.  Our permanent home in Brewers Quay is being refurbished over the next few years and in the interim we will be preparing for and planning the new museum.

During the next two years the majority of our collection which is nearly 20,000 artefacts will be in store. However we are undertaking major conservation and curation work on the collection.  We need volunteers to work on this aspect under the direction of a specialist collections coordinator. This includes working on actual artefacts as well as building communities of interest around key themes evident in the photographic, written, audio and filmed local contributions. This mixed media approach to collections documentation and storytelling will then be utilised as the knowledge base for developing the permanent displays in the new museum.

No previous experience is necessary.  Full training will be given for all roles.  We have a volunteer policy which is below together with an application form

This is a really exciting opportunity to get involved with your local museum and we hope to welcome volunteers from all ages and sections of our community.
