Volunteers are the life blood of the museum. Without our dedicated team both front of house, in research and collection management, the museum would simply not exist. Our range of activities include public facing roles, such as greeting visitors and helping them enjoy and appreciate the artefacts and fascinating stories behind them, right through to managing the museum collections, conservation, local history research and general customer enquiries. Equally, we require volunteers with practical skills to help create exhibitions, mount displays and build storage to improve the care of the collection.
We also have a very active Friends of Weymouth Museum who independently raise funds for the museum, organise and run a series of fascinating talks during the spring and autumn, produce a newsletter “By the Wey” and support many of the museums day to day activities.
The new entrance facilities were only made possible through an emergency fund from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
We have also benefitted from the active support of The Friends of Weymouth Museum.
