Weymouth Museum’s ‘Teas and Talks’ return for the autumn, and we are delighted to welcome Judith Stinton to talk about ‘Weymouth and Mr. Punch’.
Judith will talk about:
Weymouth has a continuous history of Punch & Judy, dating from as long ago as 1880. The show began among the characters in the Italian Commedia dell’arte, travelling on through France into England, and changing as it went.
In Weymouth, showmen performed their own versions of this simple story – the most memorable being Frank Edmonds, the well-loved Punch & Judy man who performed on Weymouth beach for fifty years.
About Judith:
Judith Stinton is the author of ten books, two of them celebrating Weymouth, its beach performers and some little-known aspects of its history.
About the event:
Doors open at 2 pm. Light refreshments are included in the ticket price. All are welcome to attend.
