Teas & Talks – Decades of Change – Transport in Weymouth in the years from 1985 – 2005

Monday, February 28, 2022

This talk is presented by David Riches, historian and Volunteer Researcher at Weymouth Museum.

In the later 1980s the process of privatisation of the passenger transport systems in Britain began.  When David arrived in Weymouth, late in 1984 the railway was operated by British Rail, the main bus operator was Southern National, and the ferries were Sealink but within a few years this would all change and years of stability would come to an end.  The talk portrays the upheaval that followed illustrated by around 120 photos taken in that period.

As usual the talk will be held in Hope United Reformed Church at 8 Trinity Street.  Tea & biscuits will be served from 2pm and the talk will begin at 2.30pm.

Tickets will be available on the door and are £2.00 for members of the Friends and £3.00 for visitors. (Exact change would be appreciated, if possible).
