CUSTOM HOUSE QUAY

Custom House Quay in the late 1950s is remarkably quiet and traffic free.

A Vauxhall Velox introduced in 1954 and the existence of the “Red Warehouse” which was actually numbered 51 St Mary Street and demolished in October 1958 dates the photo from that period.

A loco travels “light engine” towards some freight wagons. Basso’s workboats are moored alongside and may have been working in Portland Harbour.

In the background one of the cranes on the Cargo Stage is visible.
