A PEACEFUL EVENING SCENE

The photographer has captured an evening scene from the Nothe in 1937. The fairy lights are lit, adding to the atmosphere and silhouettes of the twin spires of Gloucester Street Congregational Church and the spire of Christ Church are prominent in the background. A peaceful end to lovely summer’s day. On the right is the Pier Toll house which survived the Ritz fire of 1954 but was demolished in November 1960 to improve access to the Pavilion Ballroom.
