TILLEYS GARAGE VICTORIA STREET WEYMOUTH

Tilleys Motor Engineers occupied an imposing building in Victoria Street, built in 1907. They also had premises in South Street and Trinity Street in Dorchester and a motorcycle dealership in Frederick Place Weymouth along with a showroom in the 1950s and 1960s at 60 St Thomas Street Weymouth.

In the 1950s they were the main dealers for Austin, Rover, Standard and Triumph and the writer when a small boy in the 1950s would look with envy on a shiny new Rover 75 in the window.

This photo dating from the late 1930s shows two new Standards, an Austin 10 and a further Austin to the right of the picture.

In 1968 the Tilleys retired and .the business was sold to Wadham Stringer.

They had a very good reputation as a reliable firm selling good cars.
