This photo dates from earlier that 1928 as it shows a splendid row of warehouses adjoining the Town Bridge. Digby’s had to be demolished to accommodate the new Town Bridge. The property next door was also demolished, remaining vacant until Town Bridge House was built in 1959 which was occupied by government and local government offices. This was in turn stripped and remodelled to form a restaurant and flats.
Jenkins, Hitt and Grant Ltd. Seemed to cover most, if not all, the functions associated with the building trade. The right hand property was also demolished and the two remaining ones on the left of the picture remain although the one on the right has had an additional; storey added.
One cannot help thinking that it was a fine row of buildings which added something to the scene.
