A view of St. John’s Church which would be impossible to take nowadays. St John’s (or Radipole New Church) was designed by Talbot Bury and built in 1854, the Vicarage following in 1859. In the early 1900s and in the 1930s extensive underpinning had to be undertaken to ensure the continued stability of the church.
The later construction of St John’s Terrace would prevent such a view today.
Note the boggy condition of the land – hence the need for underpinning.
