The Coaling Jetty in Trinity Road was a hive of activity when a ship with a cargo of coal arrived and required unloading very quickly. Here, in a scene from 1933 the unloading crew are by the side of a steam wagon which has just been unloaded.
In the background either the Sambur or Roebuck, the Great Western Railway cargo vessel, is laid up in the Cove.
When this use of Coaling Jetty ceased, it was welcomed by many, as the operation caused a great deal of dust.
