Weymouth Museum has a fine selection of paintings some of which can be found on the highly recommended searchable Art UK website (artuk.org) of which this ‘Horse Racing and Fair at Lodmoor, Dorset’ is one by an unknown artist from c1870. Much of the joy in this painting is in the details pulled out below, bare-knuckle boxing ring, bookie (?) with wife and dog, pickpocket, Punch & Judy, beating small boy(!) and a mysterious large canvas (?) by the tents on the far left-hand side.
