THE PROSPECT

Before the bombing and subsequent redevelopment of Chapelhay there were a large number of pubs. There were 5 in Chapelhay and many more if one includes High Street and High West Street, Trinity Road, Hope Square and the Nothe.

In May 1959 the Prospect was opened and to many it was the most aesthetically pleasing building of the rejuvenated area. It was to be called the Hawk Inn but the name was changed. The photo is taken prior to the opening.

Sadly it closed in 2008, was demolished and the site used for housing.

The M.G. sports car parked nest to it would be worth a lot of money today!

Weymouth Museum has been supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We have also benefitted from the active support of The Friends of Weymouth Museum.
