WADHAM STRINGER VICTORIA STREET

Tilleys was a widely respected garage in Weymouth and Dorchester. Its premises in Victoria Street opened in 1907 and filled a very large site stretching into adjoining streets.

They were the main dealers for Austin, Rover, Standard and Triumph, although in later years they concentrated on Austin.

In the late 1960s they were purchased by Wadham Stringer and the forecourt area nearest the camera was demolished.

Wadham Stringer ceased operations and the site was cleared in 1982 and is now occupied by flats.

Weymouth Museum has been supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We have also benefitted from the active support of The Friends of Weymouth Museum.
