Early on the morning of 28 May 1944 bombs fell on Weymouth and District Hospital, causing a fire in the Outpatients’ Department and the Nurses Home and a fire at the Christian Science Church.
One hundred houses were severely damaged and about 300 slightly damaged.
Three men who were members of the Civil Defence Rescue Service and a Junior Commander in the A.T.S. were killed. 10 men and 3 women were injured and detained in hospital, whilst 3 men were slightly injured, treated and sent home. Six planes were involved and 16 bombs were dropped.
