We’re thrilled to invite schools, children’s clubs or groups, and young creatives to take part in a fun-filled creative competition hosted by Weymouth Museum. The competition is in celebration of our town’s royal seaside history and Portland and Weymouth Towns of Culture 2025!
👑 A Little Weymouth History…
Did you know that Weymouth became one of England’s first seaside resorts thanks to King George III? The King loved Weymouth so much that he came here to bathe in the sea, believing it was good for his health! His royal visits in the late 1700s put our town on the map, turning Weymouth into a fashionable place to visit.
Back then, there were no amusement arcades, ice cream vans, or paddleboards. But today, Weymouth is buzzing with life—and we think King George III would be very impressed!
📮 The Challenge:
Design a postcard to send to King George III, showing him how Weymouth has changed since his visits over 200 years ago!
✏️ What to Do:
- Draw or paint the front of a postcard (maximum size 15cm x 10cm).
- Write a short message (max 120 words) on the back, telling King George III what’s new and wonderful about Weymouth today—and what you think he’d love most about it!
Be creative! You could tell him about:
- The golden sandy beach
- Festivals and events
- Water sports and funfair rides
- The Jurassic Coast
- Delicious seaside treats like fish and chips or ice cream
- Or anything YOU love about our town!
Our winners, along with a selection of the best entries, will be sent to Buckingham Palace for Prince George to see. We want him to know how important his ancestors are to Weymouth and that we’d love to see him, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis here one day paddling in the sea where their great-great-great-great-great-grandfather once paddled!

There are 3 age categories, and £50 Amazon vouchers for the winner of each!
